The shows have been fully mixed and mastered from the band's multitracks. On February 17, 1997 Phish first played Paradiso, a converted former church turned rock-club/cultural center with a capacity of about 1500. Over the next four months, Phish logged three breakthrough shows at this historic venue where the intimate setting pushed the music to new heights again and again. From the Soul Shakedown party opener and fluid, psychedelic improvisation-clinic-of-a-set II (Down With Disease > Carini > Taste > Down With Disease) on 2/17/97 to the "back of the worm" Ghost opener, Reba and another peak transcendent Set II [Fish Keyboard Jam > Timber (Jerry) > Bathtub Gin > Cities] on 7/1/97 through the Mike's Groove Sandwich and must-hear Stash > Llama > Wormtown Jam plus the double encore of 7/2/97, these three shows spread over 8 CD's comprise some of the most experimental music Phish ever played. The three shows on the Amsterdam box, the only Phish shows to-date at Paradiso, combine to deliver the full impact of a shared peak experience in an exotic locale seamlessly integrated and sizzling with creative intensity.
Master [1997 – FLAC]
Interestingly, the Phil Collins CD and Vinyl recordings are from the same era (1982), studio (Atlantic Records) and recording engineer (Hugh Padgham). The original master is analog which is what the CD is derived from, hence an AAD recording. The Spyro Gyra CD and Vinyl recordings are also from the same era (1986), studio (MCA/Amherst Records) and recording engineer (Bob Ludwig). While the CD isn't clearly marked, I believe the recording was originally done digitally. In fact, I believe the Vinyl was mastered from the digital recording since the record plays so incredibly clean and noise free. This is an interesting comparison since in the Phil Collins case, the Vinyl would appear to have an advantage being an original analog master while in the Spyro Gyra case the CD would seem to have the advantage since its an original digital master. So suck on that Objectivists; we do have the same recordings mastered by the same people and mixes on both formats!
For Miles Davis, I purchased the 180G audiophile recording remastered in 2010 by Sony Records. I'm not sure what the FLAC files were mastered from since I don't recall where I acquired them. So this is an unknown quantity that I am sure the pure Objectivists would baulk at but you can't please everyone. 2ff7e9595c
